Finding Creative Ways to Express Yourself February 10, 2021

Everyone needs an outlet of some kind to express themselves every once in a while, and creativity is an excellent way to do so. Most people experience a wide range of emotions throughout their lives, or even daily, and that includes positive and negative emotions. All types of emotions are valid, even the negative ones, but it’s important to find positive ways to channel those emotions. And what better way to do so than through creativity!

One way to begin is to simply figure out what forms of creativity you enjoy the most. For some people, it may be art or music. For others, it might be fashion or design. It may not even be something that society views as traditionally creative. For example, a financial advisor may need to find creative ways to keep a project within a certain budget, or a therapist may look at creative ways to help their clients, depending on what their clients are dealing with. In reality, we all have the potential for creativity, and accessing that creativity can be an immensely powerful tool in a person’s life.

Another key to allowing creativity to flow is to not allow pressure to get in the way, whether internal or external. Some amount of pressure can sometimes be a good thing. It can be the driving force that pushes you to be the best you can be. But too much pressure has the potential to send you in the wrong direction if it causes you to feel that your creative ideas aren’t “good enough”. The truth is that creativity functions very much like a muscle. It improves daily, the more you work at it, and stumbling blocks are a natural part of the process. If you ever find yourself feeling burnt out on whatever you’re doing, try to remind yourself why you love it in the first place! Finding the things that initially inspired you to use your creative energy can be a great way to remind yourself why you chose to be creative and can push you further on the path of expressing yourself.

For some people, creativity might be the basis of their career. For others, it might simply be a hobby. Both are equally valid! The most important thing is to remember to enjoy whatever your creative outlet is, no matter what place it holds in your life. Every individual is unique, and creativity is a beautiful way to allow that uniqueness shine in the world. It is also a positive outlet for any type of emotions that you might be feeling.
